Community based tourism
Ecuador is a developing country and that means, among other things, that many people here live below the subsistence level. Especially in the villages in the mountains, life is hard and the facilities in the field of education and medical facilities are limited. In the village of Guamote, high in the Andes mountains, the project Inti Sisa, with its guest house and community-based tourism, is committed to the well-being of children and women in particular.
Nursery, homework and sewing workshop
The project has a nursery where small children are cared for so that the parents have their hands free to go to work. In addition, children can go there after school to do their homework in the computer room. And there is a sewing workshop where mothers learn to make souvenirs that they can sell to the tourists who come to the Guest House.
Activities and meals
Inti Sisa is also committed to the children in the comunidades, the surrounding villages high in the mountains. These children have not had any lessons since the covid problems: unlike in many other countries, the parents do not have a computer or internet and domestic violence has increased.
Inti Sisa provides a day out: swimming, having lunch in a restaurant (where they never come), playing games and cooking food in the nursery. Most children only have one meal a day, if they are fed at all. In the photos you can see how the children eat their homemade chicken soup.
The project is very sympathetic and deserves our support: therefore we donate 1% of all income to this project.
